Financial Aid For Radiology Technician

Financial Aid For Radiology Technician Training Takes You Into A Really Rewarding Career!

For those willing to make the effort, it is relatively easy to find and obtain financial aid for radiology technicians. In order to qualify for radiology technician positions, you must attain specialized training and education. After completing an educational program, additional certification and licensure are also required.

At minimum, most employers require an Associates degree. Associates degrees require two years of study. Typically, they are offered by local community colleges. Jobs offering higher starting salaries require four-year bachelor’s degrees. Earning any degree entails major financial outlays. There are, however, many sources of private and government financial assistance available.

Several types of college grants exist to assist your ambitions. As the name implies, grants are outright financial gifts that require no repayment. Known as the “heart” of student financial aid packages, the Pell Grant is a need-based award. Funded by the US government, eligible students may receive up to $5550 per academic year. You may also qualify for a Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (“FSEOG”) of up to $4000 each school year. The Academic Competitiveness Grant is another Federal award that ranges from $750 to $1200 per year. Your state may also offer educational grants.

Like grants, scholarships are a form of financial aid for radiology technicians that require no repayment. Numerous private and government organizations offer a wide variety of student scholarships. All medical occupations are currently experiencing an acute shortage of qualified practitioners. Accordingly, financial aid for radiology technicians is especially abundant through medical study scholarships.

The American Association of Radiology Technicians offers several career-specific scholarships to defray the cost of training to be a radiology technician. These include the Jerman-Cahoon Student Scholarship, Royce Osborn Minority Student Scholarship, and Siemen’s Clinical Advancement Scholarship. Many schools also offer institutional scholarship awards. Various social, civic, and professional organizations also offer scholarships.

A simple search engine query will quickly reveal hundreds of scholarship search sites. Application instructions, eligibility requirements, and other relevant information are included.

Federal Work-Study is another type of financial aid for radiology technicians. Your school arranges part-time employment with either an on-campus or an off-campus employer. Your minimum hourly pay must equal the Federal minimum wage. Part of your earnings is applied directly to educational expenses. Your maximum yearly work-study award is based on financial need. Specific figures are calculated by your school’s Financial Aid Office.

Student loans are another type of financial aid for radiology technicians. Depending upon your specific year of study, Federal Stafford Loans are available in maximum amounts from $5500 to $7500 per academic year. With Subsidized Stafford Loans, the government pays all interest while you are in school. No credit check is required to qualify. Unsubsidized Stafford loans are credit-based and require interest payment immediately.

Apply for government grants, loans, and scholarships at fafsa.gov. To get more information about financial aid for radiology technicians, visit studentaid.ed.gov or ed.gov. Begin your search and application early. Federal student aid programs have application deadlines. Likewise, private scholarships have similar deadlines; funds are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. The sooner you begin the financial aid process, the sooner you will be on your way to a rewarding career.
